Philippians 3:1-21

1. Reject Religion is the Enemy of True Faith (3: 1-6)

Strict Religion gives false assurance (maximum standards)

Liberal Religion looks better, but also gives false assurance (minimum standards)

2. Trust in and Surrender to  Jesus  (3:7-9)

  

3. Trust in and Surrender to Jesus – No Strings Attached (3:10-11)

 

4. Focus on Jesus’ Promise on Heaven (3:12-16)

 

5. An Obedient Life Shows the Focus on Jesus and Heaven (3:17-21).

Application . . . 

1. Make the decision to personally trust and surrender to Jesus_

2. Make the decision again, and again, and again everyday_.

Small Group Questions

1. What did you think of religion when you were growing up?  Who were the most religious people that you knew?

 

2. Review Paul’s description of his religious background in 3:4-6. What does this tell you about Paul?

 

3. What does Paul mean when he says that he considers it all rubbish now that he knows Christ in 3: 8-9?

 

4. What does it mean to you to personally know Christ? If you made this decision, describe what happened and why it is important to you. Like Paul, did it mean that you had to surrender to Jesus apart from your religious background?

 

5. Why is it important to both trust and surrender to Christ personally?

 

6. Do you want to know the fellowship of sharing in Christ’s sufferings?  Explain?

 

7. Answer the question: “how can we pray for one another this coming week?”
