Missions
Jesus said “. . .Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:19 & 20 (NIV)
As a church we commit a significant part of our budget to missions, because we are passionate about transforming this world with the justice and mercy of Jesus Christ. We send teams of people to other countries to share the gospel and change lives every year. We financially and physically support other new churches, both church planters and church planting organizations. We regularly support local ministries for our neighbors in need here in Franklin.
Harpeth currently supports the following ministries with sweat, prayers and money:
UGANDA:
- Mbale Mission Team in Mbale, supporting indigenous missionaries and training Bible students and pastors.
- Kibbuse Vocational School in Nyamarwa
SIERRA LEONE:
- The Raining Season - As a church, we are just beginning a partnership with The Raining Season, which provides housing, nutrition, education and small business grants to orphaned children and impoverished families. Click here to see a video on how Harpeth Community is making an impact in this country.
SUDAN:
- Well drilling, Village rebuilding
- Schools, scholarship and other infrastructure support for returning refugees and others currently in camps.
DISASTER RESPONSE:
We have provided financial support and labor following hurricanes Katrina & Gustav as well as the devastating earthquake in Haiti, Nashville flood and Kentucky ice storm. Harpeth Community Church stands ready to assist in any future relief cases, both locally & nationally.
LOCAL MINISTRIES:
- We support our Williamson County neighbors with temporary assistance to meet basic needs.
- Refugee Ministries: Partnering with other local ministry organizations, we provide food, clothing, and training to refugees from around the world who settle in the greater Nashville area.
YOUTH MISSIONS:
Each year, we provide opportunities for Senior High and Junior High youth to serve together on age-specific mission trips. We have sent student teams to various parts of Mexico, Mississippi, and Detroit to build houses, rebuild neighborhoods, host VBS and other camps. Check our youth pages regularly for any upcoming opportunities to serve.
CHURCH PLANTING:
Financial and advisory support to Middle Tennessee Church Plant Network

Featured Mission - Uganda
By Melanie Carter
"In November 2009, I had the opportunity to spend one month in Uganda, Africa, which was somewhat of a "survey trip" both personally and for Harpeth. I spent about 20 of those days in Western Uganda at the Kibbuse Vocational School, where teenagers and young adults are being trained in various vocational skills so that they can make a living. The remaining time was spent with a mission team in Eastern Uganda in a town called Mbale. I am amazed at all this mission team has accomplished over the past 30 years, not only in Uganda, but also in Kenya and Sudan. As a result of my time there, I am more aware than ever of the need in this country. There is the obvious need for physical provision, but there is also a huge need for Jesus. There is a lot of spiritual warfare in Uganda, and a lot of people who subscribe to Christianity but who know very little about God and may have never opened a Bible. There is much hope and joy in this country, but there is also a need for Jesus to be known, which is a mission that I see myself supporting, to some extent, for the rest of my life.”
Harpeth will send a team to Mbale, Uganda in the summer of 2011
